Hebel Systems

Intertenancy Walls

Hebel Intertenancy Wall Systems provide solid and secure walls that maximise floorspace, minimise costs and risks – while delivering long-term value.

These systems are simple to specify with only two types of plasterboard lining to be considered for most system types – standard or moisture resistant.

Hebel Intertenancy Wall Systems include walls with concealed water services on one side and both sides, with a system for large services applications such as shower mixers in both apartments – all maximising floorspace.

Systems have also been specially designed by CSR Hebel for bathroom pods to provide maximum design efficiency, while minimising wall thickness. This is achieved through the combination of onsite constructed Hebel elements with off-site manufactured bathroom pod walls. The Hebel PowerPanel wall leaf construction is the fire-rated element and can be installed from one side only, while the two systems combined provide the acoustic performance.

Hebel Systems

Corridor Walls

Hebel Corridor Wall Systems maximise floor space and provide solid secure walls for services located on one side between common areas and apartments. These walls typically require a minimum sound insulation of Rw = 50 dB which Hebel Corridor Wall Systems easily achieve and a minimum fire rating level of -/60/60 – well-surpassed by CSR Hebel with a fire rating level of -/90/90 for wall heights up to 3.3 metres and -/120/120 for walls up to 4.65 metres (vertically) when caged tongue and groove PowerPanel is used.

CSR Hebel has also designed a hybrid system for corridor walls adjacent to bathroom pods making it easy for architects, designers and builders to specify the most economical systems for each pod project. This is achieved through the combination of onsite constructed Hebel elements with off-site manufactured bathroom pod walls. The Hebel PowerPanel wall leaf construction provides the fire rating and can be installed from one side only, while the two systems combined provide the acoustic performance. For construction, builders and contractors benefit from these well developed systems as they present a much clearer picture of which wall components are required to be built onsite and which elements are already integrated within the bathroom pod walls.

Hebel Systems

Shaft Walls

Robust and proven Hebel Shaft Wall Systems maximise space utilisation and minimise risks and costs in construction. The shaft system for dry areas provides a solid, secure wall with a narrow width around service shafts to dry habitable areas and between scissor stairs. The system for wet areas is designed for general partitions between service shafts and wet areas or shafts adjacent to common areas.

For wall heights higher than 3.3m and up to 4.65m (vertical), caged tongue & groove PowerPanel can be used which will achieve a FRL of -/120/120. This panel can also be installed horizontally to a maximum panel length of 4800mm and to an unlimited height without the need for thin bed adhesive at the panel joints.

FAQs

Q. How do you cut Hebel panels?

Panels can be cut using a circular saw with a diamond tipped blade. It is good practice to have a dust extraction vacuum attached to the circular saw to remove as much dust as possible. See the CSR Material Safety Data Sheets in the Downloads section for more information on dust from cutting Hebel autoclaved aerated concrete (AAC).

Q. How do I repair damaged panel sections?

Most small indentations in panels for internal wall systems - to a nominal size of 100x100x20mm deep - can be patched using Hebel Patch.

Q. Can I use Hebel Adhesive at the base of the panels instead of Hebel Mortar for internal walls?

Yes, as long as the gap at the base of the panel with the concrete slab is less than 3mm.

Q. Can plasterboard linings be glued to the Hebel panels for internal walls?

No. Plasterboard should be directly screwed to the panels to ensure there is no gap between the panel and the plasterboard, which can occur if plasterboard sheets are glued to the Hebel panels. Glueing can adversely affect the acoustics.

Q. Can I chase cables and pipes into the Hebel PowerPanel wall construction for internal walls?

It is a condition of the NCC that no chasing is allowed except for small areas to allow cabling through GPOs.

Q. Can I install lintel panels vertically, or do they need to be installed horizontally for internal walls?

All lintel panels above a door should be installed horizontally.

Q. What is the minimum door nib width for internal walls?

The panel either side should be no less than 300mm. If it is less and has a concrete column next to it, then an angle and fixings can be fixed. However the width should be no less than 150mm for that detail..

Q. What is the maximum wall height possible using 75mm tongue and groove PowerPanels for internal wall systems?

4.65 metres, where panels are installed vertically between concrete slabs, fixed top and bottom.

Q. What is the maximum width I can cut out of a vertical panel for internal walls?

A maximum of one third the panel width can be cut out of a full width panel i.e 200mm wide from a 600mm wide panel.

Q. Can I form a large opening in a Hebel internal wall?

Yes, large openings can be formed in a wall. However, anything larger than 200mm x 200mm should extend over two PowerPanels. Note that larger openings will need to be trimmed with steel angle sections

Q. Is it best practice to install services before or after the Hebel internal wall installation?

Services are best installed after the Hebel installation to allow for neat holes to be drilled into the Hebel making it easier to fire rate.

Q. Do I need to use fire rated GPOs with the Hebel tongue and groove internal wall systems?

No.  You don’t need fire rated GPOs as the Hebel PowerPanel wall construction is the component of the wall system that provides the fire performance.

Q. What is the detail required around pipe penetrations in internal walls? Do I need an annular joint or can the Hebel be hard up to the pipe/fire collar?

There should be a nominal 10mm gap around any service penetration to allow for fire rated sealant to be installed to the manufacturer’s specifications.

Q. Do I need to run the plasterboard linings up to the concrete soffit to satisfy acoustic requirements for Hebel internal wall systems?

Not to achieve NCC performance compliance. This means there’s improved installation efficiency without the need for another set joint.

Q. Do I need to extend the insulation up to the concrete soffit to satisfy acoustic requirements for Hebel internal wall systems?

Wherever insulation is shown Hebel construction details then it needs to be installed to the full height from slab to soffit, either within the stud or furring channel cavities.

Q. Do I need to install insulation in the smaller cavities when using furring channels to one side of the Hebel PowerPanel wall construction for internal walls?

Yes you do if required in the specification.  Further, it will help with acoustic performance.

Q. Can a 75mm Hebel PowerPanel wall construction achieve an FRL value of -/90/90 without any plasterboard linings for internal walls?

Yes it can for wall heights up to 3.3 metres using 75mm single mesh tongue and groove PowerPanel.

Q. How do I achieve an FRL of -/120/120 using 75mm Hebel PowerPanels for internal wall systems?

There are two ways. One is by using the 75mm caged tongue and groove Hebel PowerPanels which will achieve an FRL of -120/120 up to 4.65 metres. The other is by fixing 13mm Fyrecheck full height to single mesh tongue and groove panels for wall heights up to 3.3 metres. Proper installation of the head steel angle and sealants at the slab soffit is paramount to maintaining the fire performance

Q. Can I use standard plasterboard with the PowerPanel tongue and groove systems and still achieve an FRL of -/90/90 or -/120/120 for internal walls?

Yes you can. The fire-rating of the wall system is achieved through the PowerPanel wall construction without the need for plasterboard. For an FRL of -/90/90 use 75mm single mesh T&G PowerPanel. For an FRL of -/120/120 use 75mm caged T&G PowerPanel.

Q. Does the plasterboard need to extend to the concrete soffit to achieve an FRL of -/90/90 or -/120/120 for Hebel internal wall systems?

Only if using 75mm single mesh T&G Hebel PowerPanels up to 3.3 metres.  13mm Fyrechek is required to be direct fixed to the panel to achieve FRL of -/120/120.
